The Way You Tell a Story

Mark Mariano’s story can be told very well visually.  The way he expresses himself through art is all about visuals.  Therefore, it would work out perfectly to try and tell his story using a concept alike.  Although, unlike Mark, we are using visuals with motion, it is still a similar expression form.  His story can be told through videos of him working on his comics and drawings because, obviously, that plays an important role in the story of his life.  Furthermore, footage of his every day activities should be included in the video essay, as well.  These kinds of visual aids can show an audience where Mark may get his inspiration from in a normal setting.  From a visually told story, the audience can also see what kind of activities a comic book publisher partakes in on a regular basis.  By using all of these types of images and videos, Marks story will be told thoroughly and creatively.

A visual telling of a story is much different than telling an oral story.  With an oral story, all the audience can do is just listen and imagine a mind movie on their own.  When video is supplied along with the story, people can really get an inside look at the story.  If I were too simply just tell some one that Mark is going to a convention in Philly this weekend, they would have to picture what a convention is like all on their own.  However, if I were too show them a video of Mark at a comic book convention, it would be clear that he is in Philly at a convention.  But, also, they could see what Mark saw.  The audience can look at other people at the convention, their work, Mark’s work, and the type of stuff that goes on there.  I have no idea what a comic book convention is like.  Some one could tell me about their experience at one and I would get a pretty good idea.  Or I could vicariously experience it by engaging in visual aids from the actual event.  I’m not saying that an oral story telling is any less than a visual telling of a story, but sometimes images and videos of the experience works better at giving the audience an inside look at what happened.

“I went to a comic book convention this weekend.”
